Walk & Talk Neighborhood Toolkit available now!

After the snow event in February 2021, Alta Vista and Beacon Hill neighborhoods, which had been without electricity and for some, water, for up to four days, went into action with the Impact Guild to provide food, water, help with repairs, and to conduct door-to-door wellness checks for over 175 families in our neighborhoods. We began to understand how important neighborhood structures are to providing not only emergency care during and after the storm and during the COVID-19 crisis, but through out the year as neighbors faced such problems as  eviction, or home repair bills, and frustration with getting help for elder neighbors.

We started gathering resources to help our neighbors, but soon realized that the issues are not as  simple as handing someone a number to call. Our committee has developed a toolkit for neighborhood Walk & Talks based on the W&Ts in Alta Vista, West End Hope in Action, and most recently, Westwood Square. We are also developing  a city-wide forum with panels would help neighborhood residents understand how to deliver help and it would held CoSA understand gaps in its care for its residents, despite its best intentions. This forum will take place in January 29, 2021.
